Well some days have passed since my last post. Its time to talk again about some important things that has been bothering me for a while. This is about how people teach one another. Im meaning how people teach anything. How you propose your way of thinking to people.
Well for example if you teach some one about dancing or singing or what ever, you want to purpose the idea of the real essence to your student. You want your student or just someone you talk to understand the way its supposed to be.
Well dont we all do that?
Many people dont really suggest the idea. They usually just tell them what to do and what not to do. Its important to be told how basics is done and why they are basics. How did the basics become like this. To find the essence of your art is to find your self. The key element is the foundation in what you do. I think everyone can agree with that. You learn a basic to make you understand the movement. Make you move the "right way".
But many people approach with negative attitude. Saying that "this is the right way" or " thats wack, dont do that". Everyone is different. Everyone needs to find their limits.
For example. In this dance (bboying/breakdance). People always tell you to be original. Find your way and bring something to the table. Thats basic info. But usually a lot of teachers bring their students into the box. The best ones knows how to get out of the box. But for some people its better if you purpose and idea. You recommend these things to them instead of disallowing them to do something else otherwise Its like putting other ones down to make you shine.
I was thought the way to dislike many people to FIGHT THE POWER. I was told not to like a certain style or a country so your / our style will stay in the real essence box. Well i learned a lot from these teachers. I still learn. But i was also scarred for life. Trying to work my way out of this made me stronger. But a lot of people cant do that.
Well that was your time to learn foundation??
Yes. It was my time to learn the essence and it was a great school. Im still in that school. Learning always. I Made many friends and many many enemies. Simply because "they didnt do it the right way".
Instead of trying to understand them and learning from them and them learning from you. Its funny to diss someone but its not that funny to be dissed. Well thats normal in anything you do. No one is a saint.
Give your students what you have and help them find their way. The ones that keeps it "Real" will always keep it "Real". You cant really teach anyone to "feel it". But you can teach people to relax and show them that doing you, will share more light.
I think the bboying scene in the world has taken a great step up on the teaching part. A lot of people we looked up to is coming to you now with great energy and willing to teach. Im glad workshops are filled with people and dance schools are really putting effort in the dance part of Hip Hop.
This is not a i love everyone speech, is more like the same "truth" can be told in many ways. Just find the right way to for the right people.
Peace.
dope...
VastaaPoistacould'nt agree more. i do the same in my classes since the first class of my students i tell them to be original to be creative- "don't immitate- innovate" and so on. i do practice with my students how to find new way and not "stuck" on things other bboys have already did.
always do something more, try to learn a small something every class, not just on the phisycal but also on the mental way of bboying.
i had a a great pleasure to know that other people, aspecially from the bboying scene, share our opinion.
peace
